      Dr. Ed Cannava was a public school music educator for 32 years. He was Arapahoe High School’s Director of Bands for 22 years, from 1987 until his retirement in May of 2009. Dr. Cannava received his music education degrees from the University of Colorado, culminating with his Ph.D. in 1994.
      He had ensembles perform in numerous invitational performances over his career including: nine feature performances by his junior and senior high concert, jazz and chamber ensembles at the Colorado Music Educators Association Clinic/Conferences; twelve appearances at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee; numerous Montreux, Switzerland International Jazz Festivals; the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; two Carnegie Hall Concerts; the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade; the 2006 American School Band Directors Association National Convention; the New Year’s Eve Vienna, Austria Parade; the London New Year’s Day Parade; and the London Central Westminster Hall – International Choral Festival Finale Concert.
      The Arapahoe HS Warrior Marching Band was the Colorado 5A State Champion Runner-up Band in 2005 and 2007. They also bronze medaled twice. Under Dr. Cannava’s direction, Arapahoe was a six time state finalist at the Colorado Marching Band Championships. Five National Downbeat Outstanding Music Awards were given to Arapahoe’s Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and traditional jazz combo.
      Dr. Cannava served as ASBDA National President and Board member for three years. He received an NBA Citation of Excellence Award and a Phi Beta Mu-Colorado Chapter Outstanding Bandmaster Award. Dr. Cannava has been inducted into the Colorado Music Educators Association and Colorado Bandmasters Association Halls of Fame.
      He served on the Executive Board for the Denver Jazz Club, and directed the Denver Jazz Club Youth All-Stars for numerous years. Dr. Cannava has been Regis University's Director of Bands since 2014, where he currently directs the Regis Concert and Jazz Bands. He was previously an affiliate member of the Metropolitan State University of Denver Music Education & Band Faculty. The University of Colorado, University of Northern Colorado, and VanderCook College of Music have had Dr. Cannava as a guest presenter for their music education classes. In addition he has served on the faculty of the Conn-Selmer Institute at Notre Dame University. Dr. Cannava has guest conducted many Colorado honor groups throughout his career.
      He is a proud member of Phi Beta Mu, ASBDA, CBA, CMEA, NBA, JEN, and NAfME. Dr. Cannava has adjudicated concert, jazz and marching festivals in Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, California, Nevada and Tennessee. He is in constant demand as a guest clinician, conductor, adjudicator and consultant. Dr. Cannava has been the Chief Judge for the Friendship Cup Marching Band Show Series, and the Executive Secretary for the Colorado Bandmasters Association, since 2011.
